Can architectural structures truly be crafted from paper? A singular sheet of delicate paper may seem too frail, yet what if its strength could be enhanced through strategic folds? With its thin, easily malleable nature, coupled with affordability, paper stands out for its remarkable cost-effectiveness. Drawing inspiration from these attributes, Shigeru Ban ingeniously addressed construction challenges in refugee camps by employing paper tube units crafted from rolled paper.
In this endeavor, I leveraged DIGITAL FABRICATION TECHNOLOGY to elevate paper architecture, infusing it with captivating and sculptural elegance. Taking cues from Fuse Tomoko’s origami unit as a foundation, I navigated through the variables, culminating in the creation of the final model—a stunning geodesic dome.
